Sunaparanta's `Home in the City: Bombay 1976-Mumbai 2016' by Sooni Taraporevala at The Whitworth, Manchester

Sooni Taraporevala, with whom Sunaparanta enjoys a lasting working relationship, enjoys her first UK solo show: Home in the City, Bombay 1976-Mumbai 2016.  Curated by Sunaparanta Honorary Director, Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi, with patronage from Sunaparanta founders, Dattaraj Salgaocar and Dipti Salgaocar, the show commissioned by Dr. Maria Balshaw opened at the Whitworth on March 4th 2017 and will be on view till 28 February 2018.

The series of black and white photographs depict life in Bombay/Mumbai from 1976 to 2016.  Capturing the city in which she grew, Sooni’s images, cutting across class and community lines are an insider’s affectionate view, exploring a metropolis, as its shape shifted over four decades.  These works are personal documents of the city’s eccentrics, its children, its elderly and its landscape.

On 20th July 2017, Sooni Taraporevala gave a rare insight into her black-and-white photographs within the exhibition ‘Home in the City: Bombay 1976-Mumbai 2016’ at The Whitworth, Manchester.
