Sensorium, a new arts festival, launches on Saturday Dec 6, 2014 and will continue to be exhibited until Thursday February 5, 2015 at Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts in Altinho, Panjim.
Sensorium, is a festival that in its inaugural year traces the intersection between photography and the other mediums – literature, cinema and installation art.
The idea behind Sensorium is to do something small and serious. The festival is directed by Prashant Panjiar, founder of Delhi Photo Festival and writer and novelist Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi.
The festival is privately supported by Raj and Dipti Salgaocar, Patrons of Sunaparanta. Isheta Salgaocar too is part of the Sensorium team as Executive Producer of the festival. Raj Salgaocar is also a board member of MOMA. The entire festival will show at Sunaparanta (nominated by Forbes India among the five best arts institutions in India).
The program includes a visit by bestselling historian William Dalrymple, acclaimed artist Dayanita Singh, Oscar nominated script writer Sooni Taraporevala, a show of fashion photographer Farrokh Chothia’s jazz greats (with an introduction by Salman Rushdie).
Italian photographer Fausto Giaccone pays an evocative tribute to Gabriel Garcia Marquez. In an era where books are endangered, gallerist Regina Anzenberger curates a show of 18 stunning handmade photo books. And then there are shows by younger yet accomplished photographers: Anusha Yadav of the Indian Memory Project, Sohrab Hura’s compelling and personal work on his mother. And a show on Photo-poetry: Octavio Paz in India curated by Jesus Calvero-Rodriguez and photographs by Adil Hassan, Subrata Biswas and Sudeep Sen.
