About the Film

`Good Morning’ is among the last few films made by the master director Yasujirô Ozu. Like all his films, this one too presents a slice of life of a middle class Japanese family. The bone of contention is a television which Mr. Hayashi refuses to buy for his children because he fears that TV will produce a million idiots. His children try their best to coax him and ultimately resort to a silence strike. While on the surface the film is light and entertaining, Ozu adds many more layers of complexity to it.
