    About the Film

A visually stunning film by Polish directed Lech Majewski, The Mill and the Cross is based on the painting "The Way to Calvary" (1564), by the Flemish master Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The painting has 500 odd characters in it including Christ carrying the cross.

Majewski tells us the story of the painting through the eyes of the painter. The detailed painting itself speaks volumes and the director has interpreted it in his own way. The film received rave reviews from around the globe for its extraordinary imagery. Famed critic Roger Ebert called it "a film of great beauty and attention, and watching it is a form of meditation."
