The Quest for Cruzo: Western Classical video presentation on Thursday 21st July ’16 at Sunaparanta
As part of the collateral event of the ongoing exhibition ‘The Quest for Cruzo’ curated by Ranjit Hoskote, Sunaparanta is pleased to announce an evening of Western Classical Music dedicated to the period when a young Cruzo was a student, artist and traveller in Europe. This was a time of flamboyant cultural experimentation and political turmoil and Europe was a stage for the most extraordinary cultural developments in the visual arts, literature, architecture, theatre, cinema and music.
To evoke the atmosphere of the times, which parallels the multiple artistic expressions that da Cruz was imbibing, John Menezes shares insight into the works of western classical composers from that era with the screening of concert videos including a vivid performance of Maurice Ravel’s brilliant orchestrated adaptation of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and a compelling music appreciation lecture-demonstration on Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 ‘Titan’, by Gustavo Dudamel with the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela.
