Evite: Play Reading `Rang Karnad' of late Dr. Girish Karnad on 26 July '19
toSunaparanta – Goa Centre for the Arts in association with Dhaee Aakhar, Goa invite you to ‘Rang Karnad’ – a tribute to renowned playwright, actor, filmmaker, Dr. Girish Karnad on Friday, 26 July ’19 at 6.30 pm.
This play reading session in Hindi and English will explore the world of Girish Karnad’s three thought-provoking plays, ‘Nagamandala’, ‘Tughlaq’ and ‘Bikhre Bimb’, excerpts of these will be presented by Mamata Verlekar, Assistant Professor, Dept of Hindi, Government College, Sanquelim and Ramita Gurav, Associate Professor, Dept of Hindi, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, Goa.
Dr. Girish Karnad was a Rhodes Scholar, recipient of Padma Bhushan and Jnanpith Award who wrote 15 plays in his lifetime, all in the Kannada language. Some of his well-known plays are ‘Yayati’ (1961), ‘Tughlaq’ (1964), ‘Hayavadana’ (1972), ‘Nagamandala’ (1988), ‘Odakalu Bimba’ (2006), ‘Benda Kaalu on Toast’ (2012), among others. The interesting aspect about his plays was his use of mythology, folklore, and history to speak about contemporary issues and have been translated in various languages and performed all over the country and abroad.

and harmony with the help of art.
