Set in pre- depression America ‘Splendor in the Grass’ explores teenage sexual repression and awakening in rural conservative America. Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty (in his first film role) are the teenage lovers whose burgeoning love is threatened by forces beyond their control – parents, societal mores and idle gossip.
Winner of the Oscar for Original Screenplay. The title is derived from a William Wordsworth poem.
