`Ordinary Superheroes' - solo show of Viraj Naik on at Sunaparanta
toSunaparanta: Goa Centre for the Arts invites you to Ordinary Superheroes: Tales from the AniMan Kingdom, a solo show by Goa-based artist Viraj Naik and curated by Leandre D’Souza.
Ordinary Superheroes is a collection of over 95 ink drawings, etchings and sculptures of hybridized subjects, part of Naik’s long-term study of the physiognomy and behaviour of human beings. The exhibition features an evolutionary archive of the human portrait, illustrated as mutilations – where men are disfigured into beasts, monsters and grotesque creatures.

His exhibitions include OUTOTSU at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art (2018); 11th Biennale de la Gravure de Liège, La Boverie, Liège, Belgium (2017); 13th International Graphic Art Biennial, Serbia (2017); Seize On, Apparao Galleries, Chennai (2010); Mythical Menagerie, Visual Arts Centre, Hong Kong (2008); Speaking of Otherness, Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai (2007); Blue Ants, Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi (2006).
