Sunaparanta Goa Centre for the Arts presents a conversation between contemporary artists Bhisaji Gadekar and Nikhil Chopra titled Bodywork: The absence & presence of performance in Bhisaji's work.
Finding intersections between his own practice and that of Gadekar, Chopra engages the artist in a dialogue about his relationship with the body in his art - where the body performs as a medium through which ideas of political, cultural and gender identity are deconstructed and reconstructed.
As part of his work for our ongoing exhibition Retellings, Gadekar is presenting a performance-based, sculptural installation titled Second Skin ll. It takes its genesis from the traditional skills of craftsmanship that are now becoming extinct with modern technology. In this piece, Gadekar presents fashion garments constructed and assembled from bamboo, shown off and experienced in an atelier. The work is representative of the artist’s sartorial lineage where acts of stitching, cutting and embroidering take the form of rituals.
Retellings is in collaboration with Goa Open Arts.
